greyscale s next full-length release come from german based artist audhentik. titled hypno , this album encompasses 14 pieces that dive deep into a heavily-based synthetic world of atmospheric ambient and dub. imagine if you took some amazing pictures of a desert island then put on a pair of ambient dub filtered glasses on. a picture-esque nature beach scene has been processed so heavily that they evoke memories of a place you have been before. this is a true artistry in ambience. perspectives combines a wonderful balance of field recordings with washed out chords of grandeur. breathtaking and majestic like looking down on to a city from an amazing view off a mountaintop. period explores an off-kilter dub rhythm while feeling stuck in a languid moment of disorientation as the track disperses the tension near the end. that astounding build leads perfectly in to the title piece. hypno is a 9+ minute journey deep into the abyss with a track of pure aural pleasure. epic is an understatement here. a standout among many other standout s here. infinite edit is one of the key interlude s that link the tracks together on the album. this one provides a thinner airier stratosphere then the previous ones giving you a chance to catch your breath as you prepare for another trek into the depths of static . this one has you feeling adrift in a nautical theme of optimism through the arduous recent events of a shaky future. a wonderful storytelling is evolving on hypno ...

the 21st full length release on greyscale is by none other than the home town hero sraunus. a veteran of the label, we are thrilled to have the fellow lithuanian back once again. the depth of surrealismus is nothing short of amazing. how only 7 tracks feels deeper than any double cd set, we are still trying to uncover and understand the entire scope of this release. sonically, it is a true gem of pushing the limits. idea wise, this album is cohesive and awe-inspiring. holowuka is beautiful and gentle opener. it sets off a serene almost deep sea diving atmosphere with the long delays and low frequency chords vibrating through. the melodic elements open up even more, a vast world as the track evolves. from the low key and moody to the pumping aggressiveness that is hroniglas ii . a true monster with a sick combination of trance and deep techno thrills. jueootas conjures of memories of 1990s ambient techno with the light and airy feeling of nostalgia. a lovely adventure on the high seas. jurgynas continues this theme with a beautiful ride into a sound that is blissful and forever. some of the most soothing dub techno we have heard yet. lapunai is another strong candidate for being our most favorite on the album. featuring what sounds like excerpts of violin s over some amazing layered melodies. a shinning moment and a perfect example of a dub techno track s emotional potential. lastly, ramunanas submerges us in a beatless (but not bassline-less) sphere of magical and shimmering sounds. a true master-class of more ambient dub techno. sraunus is back and if surrealismus is any example of what he has in store, then everyone should bookmark his choice where he shares his latest news. we think this could revival any dub techno release for album of the year. it s that good!

subset is the featured artist for the 17th greyscale full-length. named >this quiet earth<, this 9 track heavyweight of dubby goodness offers a consistent variety of spatialness while the atmosphere clearly surrounds you with its innate charm. heavy chords are consistent characteristic here while the beats are strong and favor more of a steady low tempo. tracks like >the rivers are dry< and >trippy specs< are soaked in reverb with an old skool dub sound while >the community of worlds< and >two halves< are another pair of deep-seated scenic heaters. the steady static over many tracks give off a language of communication to the listener that balances the organic elements extremely well. >lucys sky dreams< is not unlike a classic echospace track with tremendous depth that has you on the edge of your seat. a gentle album across the board that still has a reserved serious tone to it. another fine addition to the camp, subsets debut with us is a memorable one.
